Plummer replaces Anthony Hopkins in ‘The Last Station’
Friday, April 4th, 2008Christopher Plummer is to replace Anthony Hopkins in the Warner Bros. production of the biopic of Leo Tolstoy, The Last Station. Hopkins had been previously been annouced for the role of Tolstoy. The role of Tolstoy’s wife, Sofia is also seeing a subsitution as Meryl Streep was believed to be playing the role, but it now goes to Helen Mirren.
The production is based on a 1999 novel by Jay Parini entitled The Last Station : A Novel Of Tolstoy’s Last Years, which explores Tolstoy turbulent final years, where Tolstoy flees his home to a small railway station in Astapovo, where he thinks he’s dying alone.

The film will be shot in Germany and Russia.
Also starring in the film is Paul Giametti playing Chertkov, James McAvoy and his wife Anne-Marie Duff. Michael Hoffman, the director of The Emperor’s Club, is in to direct the film.
