It’s the story of Corky Hopkins (played by Hopkins), who has just failed his first attempt at making it big in the professional magic business because he has a poor sense for show business. He goes off to work on his work and comes back bearing a ventriloquist dummy with a rude mouth named Fats. Despite an offered television appearance Corky declines because he secretly fears psychological testing required to go on TV, as he can hear Fats talking to him when they’re alone.

This multiple personality problem comes to a boil when Corky starts up a relationship with a woman who Fats is jealous of. Fats starts killing people with Corky in tow, and eventually Corky is forced to kill himself to stop Fats. As they die they have one last discussion wondering who will die first.
