Slipstream Anthony Hopkins
Wednesday, May 28th, 2008Anthony Hopkins has played a lot of roles over the years. He’s played Richard Nixon; Charles Dickens; Adolf Hitler; and, on the fictional side of things, he’s portrayed, time and again, the deranged cannibal Hannibal Lector.
But only once has he played the role of screenwriter, and that was in Slipstream, a 2007 film created by, directed by and starring Hopkins. In Slipstream Anthony Hopkins plays the part of Felix Bonhoeffer, a would-be screenwriter who somehow gets caught in a slipstream of time. As a result of being captured he suddenly remembers his own future, and is subjected to a bizarre world of seemingly random memories thrown at him in a vortex that increases in speed crazily.
Unfortunately Slipstream has not done terribly well. Most critics panned the movie, considering it confusing and not terribly interesting. Other viewers – non-professional, of course – seem to agree. Hopefully Hopkins’ next work will be better received by audiences.
