Sir Anthony Hopkins

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Receiving a knighthood is still one of the greatest honors a person can achieve in the United Kingdom. So it’s only fitting that after so many years in the business Anthony Hopkins would be granted this supreme award for his work on the stage.

Hopkins was officially knighted in 1987, made a Commander of the British Empire by the queen. He is among those few top ranks in the Order of the British Empire with the honorific ‘sir’ attached to the front of his name.

More, though, he was also knighted in 1993 as a Knight Bachelor. Knight Bachelors are those worthy enough to be knighted but not falling under one of the pre-existing Orders of Chivalry. It’s only fitting that an actor with as many years under his belt as Hopkins be knighted not once but twice over the course of his life.
