Wow. Talk about a case of bad naming. Anthony Hopkins is bound to face some bad press for this no matter what happens.

Last month an evangelical preacher was arrested for the murder of his wife. According to police the preacher, who had a history of abusing his 19-year-old daughter, killed his wife and kept her remains frozen after she caught him molesting the daughter. The daughter alerted police to the murder shortly after moving out of the house.

The man’s name?

Anthony Hopkins.

Bad, bad naming. Anybody looking for news on the actor is likely to come across this case pretty quickly, and, well, yeah. Luckily for actor Hopkin, preacher Hopkins looks nothing like him - but still.

Hannibal Lecter had appeared in a movie before Silence of the Lambs, but it took Anthony Hopkins playing the psychopathic cannibal in the 1991 movie to truly bring him into the public domain.

The Silence of the Lambs is the story of Clarice Starling (played by Jodie Foster), an FBI agent who’s forced to go to the jailed Lecter for help with catching a serial killer called Buffalo Bill. After some word play Lecter agrees to help, albeit cryptically: he offers hints and riddles for Starling to work out which, after several more murders, leads Starling to Bill. In the process she learns much about the man, as Lecter was originally his psychiatrist; but their conversations are cut short, as Lecter manages to escape from incarceration.

In the end Starling discovers that Bill is a psychopath who is intensely depressed that he cannot have a sex change operation to become a woman. He captured women in order to skin them and fashion the skin into a ‘woman suit’ for him to wear. They have a short encounter, and Starling shoots him to death.

The film ends with one final conversation between Starling and Lecter over the phone before he heads off to have a reunion with “an old friend”, his former jailer.

Hopkins managed to snag an academy award for his portrayal of Lecter, also snagging the record for awar winner with the least amount of screen time (a little over 16 minutes, despite his importance to the plot).

Sir Anthony Hopkins has played a lot of roles in his time, but there is no one character he is better known for than Hannibal Lecter.

Appearing in three out of five movies featuring the villain, Hopkins has become inextricably linked to Lecter. He managed to win an Oscar for his first appearance in Silence of the Lambs despite the fact that Lecter only appears in the movie for less than twenty minutes.

In the fiction Lecter is a genius killer and (as his name might hint) a cannibal. Originally a psychologist, Lecter is revealed in Red Dragon and captured; however he aids the police in hunting down another killer by analyzing the killer’s actions. He does so again in Silence of the Lambs, though by the end of this movie Lecter manages to escape his incarceration. He is nearly captured again in the next book and movie, Hannibal, though he manages to escape from Agent Starling, the same officer whom he’d worked with in Silence of the Lambs.

But the book and movie separate from one another on the ending of Hannibal. In the movie Starling is captured but spared by Lecter, and she gives chase once again as the movie ends. In the novel, however, Lecter attempts to turn Starling into a twisted version of his dead sister, and even though he fails she nevertheless becomes his lover in order to repress his cannibalistic tendencies.

It might be a bit understandable why they didn’t use that ending in the movie. Either way, though, Lecter endures as one of the most endearing and grotesque villains to come along in a while.

Anthony Hopkins has played a lot of roles over the years. He’s played Richard Nixon; Charles Dickens; Adolf Hitler; and, on the fictional side of things, he’s portrayed, time and again, the deranged cannibal Hannibal Lector.

But only once has he played the role of screenwriter, and that was in Slipstream, a 2007 film created by, directed by and starring Hopkins. In Slipstream Anthony Hopkins plays the part of Felix Bonhoeffer, a would-be screenwriter who somehow gets caught in a slipstream of time. As a result of being captured he suddenly remembers his own future, and is subjected to a bizarre world of seemingly random memories thrown at him in a vortex that increases in speed crazily.

Unfortunately Slipstream has not done terribly well. Most critics panned the movie, considering it confusing and not terribly interesting. Other viewers – non-professional, of course – seem to agree. Hopefully Hopkins’ next work will be better received by audiences.

It’s the story of Corky Hopkins (played by Hopkins), who has just failed his first attempt at making it big in the professional magic business because he has a poor sense for show business. He goes off to work on his work and comes back bearing a ventriloquist dummy with a rude mouth named Fats. Despite an offered television appearance Corky declines because he secretly fears psychological testing required to go on TV, as he can hear Fats talking to him when they’re alone.

This multiple personality problem comes to a boil when Corky starts up a relationship with a woman who Fats is jealous of. Fats starts killing people with Corky in tow, and eventually Corky is forced to kill himself to stop Fats. As they die they have one last discussion wondering who will die first.

Well it seems that there is some debate among viewers on this question. Fracture, a suspenseful cat and mouse thriller staring Anthony Hopkins as Ted Crawford and Ryan Gosling as Willy Beachum. This film features Hopkins as a cunning would be wife murderer and Gosling as a confident assistant district attorney bent on getting justice for the shooting of Hopkins wife. While the car that Hopkins drives in the movie doesn’t play an intricate role, it has sure sparked a lot of curiosity among movies goers.

In the movie the seemingly arrogant Hopkins is seen driving around a fancy sports car that any one would love to own. Among speculations from some viewers, the car has been guessed at being anything from Ferrari to a Mercedes XL. To answer this question, the featured car that has sparked this curiosity is actually a 2003 Porsche Carrera GT.
